Why multi-ethnic?

Conventional wisdom teaches that you can launch either a black church or a white church. Our wisdom says that if we share the same culture, live in the same community and have the same values, we can serve, worship, and be in community around a common faith. We are committed to being the church in a community where people of one culture but multiple races can rally around the purposes of the one true God through his son Jesus Christ. One culture, many races, one community.

Diversity is part of the power of Christianity: Christ-followers were first called Christians in a city in the ancient Near East called Antioch. Up to that point, believers has simply been considered a Jewish sect. But when they saw the unity in diversity of that gathering, reflected in the racially diverse names of the leadership as recorded in the Bible, that they had to come up with a new name. 'Christian' literally means 'little Christ' or maybe 'Christ-ette'. The community of Antioch recognized that something special was going on there, and that it was because of this 'Christ' the believers kept talking about.

We want to know that same unity.

How we got started

In 2008 a group of Christ-followers got together in West Chester, longing for an expression of church that matched the reality of the culture. We didn't fit in at all-white churches or all-black churches. Our circle of friends, our workplaces, our schools, and our shopping malls include all colors of people.

Pathways was born out of this desire, to see a church that reflects the diversity that God created. We know that when we come together across old boundaries, something spiritual happens. We want to know each other and raise our children among this kind of spirituality.

We also desire to be a church that is active in the community, helping people with no strings attached. Jesus spent his time on this earth hanging out with and helping the marginalized, disenfranchised, and everyday people. We're going to follow his example and make a difference in West Chester.

Along the way, we have joined forces with a couple of nonprofit groups that specialize in helping new churches get started. Stadia: New Church Strategies and Kingdom Synergy Partners have been instrumental in helping us organize and getting us equipped to serve the community of West Chester.

We are a church that stands on these things:

Reaching Out

Outreach is one of our core values at Pathways. We serve our world in innovative ways. We will Be the Church.

Whether we are attacking illiteracy by volunteering in tutoring groups; attacking hunger by serving the poor through food drives; or attacking social oppression by advocating for the poor or needy, we are here to make a difference in our world.

Worship & Creative Arts

My responsibility is to ensure that we create an environment that is authentic, exciting, and meaningful as we passionately express our love or God.

We take our worship experience seriously here at Pathways. And whether you believe in God or not, we invite you to come and EXPERIENCE Him with us.

Let me tell you a few things that won't happen during our worship service.

No one will point you out as a visitor. You can lay low and just check it out.
No one will do anything "weird or spooky"
No one will make you stand or sit or come up front or stay in the back.

We are a family orientated-church. Even if you are alone, you will never feel lonely here at Pathways.

As Family Life Director, I am responsible for areas such as: Children's, Couples, Singles, Men & Women's ministries and fun & holiday events.

We believe that a healthy church is like a healthy family. We will do all that we can to ensure that everyone feels a part of the Pathways family.

My main responsibility at Pathways is to keep my finger on the pulse of the Pathways environment, ensuring that those who make Pathways their home are growing and developing spiritually. Spiritual synergy is created by the foundational principle of loving and caring for one another as we do for ourselves. God's word takes us into this community of faith where together we encourage each other to aspire to the highest of virtues.

"Money" is not the root of all evil. We need lots of it to help reach our world and we believe that God is going to supply all that we need. God does not give evil gifts.

As the Stewardship Director I want you to know that we exercise the utmost care and levels of integrity in dealing with the finances here at Pathways.

We believe what the bible says, "Give and it will be given back to you", so if you have a need let us know. We practice what we teach.
